Approach to tutoring
BA in English Language and Literature, MA in Linguistics.
Author of a bespoke curriculum and textbook for English language centred on critical thinking and project based learning.
I view learning as one of the best things life can offer, and take that approach to my students.
It’s a journey of discovery of ourselves and the world around us and formal education is just one of its segments.
Learning is a two way street and for me as a tutor it is essential to find out how a student learns and understands the subject before I tailor-making a course that would suit the needs.
Whether it is a preparation for an exam or following a regular curriculum, it is vital that a student is motivated to learn.
Often, students underperform due to the lack of confidence which can be caused by various reasons.
In my many years of tutoring experience, I have found that building a student’s confidence is a key to success.
When working with SEND students, I have developed a unique tutoring style which includes music and songs, audio cards for vocabulary and non-verbal communication, a sequence of shorter activities in order to keep focus and interest.
There is no greater satisfaction than seeing an initially withdrawn student blossom, sing and realise their potential, almost always moving towards the next stage of education, rejoining schools and colleges.
Teaching experience
I have over 35 years of teaching and tutoring experience.
I specialise in teaching English (GCSE, IB), EAL, English for Functional Skills, Levels 1 and 2, but can also help with maths.
I am also a SEN tutor with over 7 years of experience.
Career Aim
To bring the English language and literature to life by imparting its knowledge and beauty. To help students gain confidence and achieve the next level. To remain an unforgettable teacher.
my 1-1 teaching style is based firstly on the thorough analysis of the student's needs and abilities and then tailor-creating the curriculum and material to get the most out of them.During the 30 years of my rich teaching career, I have developed a unique style of making English language relevant to students not only as a means of passing an exam but acquiring one of the most valuable skill - communication and self-expression.With me, students delve into the depths of literary analysis both from the content and context, I also help students plug any gaps with the SPAG (spelling, accuracy, punctuation and grammar) and thus infuse the students with confidence in their ability and achieving and showing their maximum.
Our tutors go through a rigorous selection process. Each one is interviewed to assess their teaching ability, completes a test of their IB subject knowledge, and has passed a police and background check. They bring extensive IB tutoring experience and a proven track record of helping students achieve their academic goals
