Which schools get the best IB Diploma Programme (DP) results in the world? Every year, the independent guide IB-Schools.com publishes a global league table that ranks IB schools by their students' average total points (out of 45). The 2026 table, based on the May 2026 exams, is now out.

We've taken the 2026 table, the separate table for small schools, and every global table published since the first one in 2020. This guide breaks the results down by region, shows how the scores needed to reach the top have changed, and links to our local IB tutoring pages for each city.

Key Takeaways

  • St Paul's Co-educational College in Hong Kong is the top IB school in the world in 2026, with an average of 43.0 points. K. International School Tokyo (42.7) and King's College School Wimbledon in London (42.5) complete the top three.
  • Seven of the top 10 schools are in East Asia, including five in Hong Kong.
  • To reach the global top 100 in 2026, a school needed an average of 35.6 points. That's almost five points above the global IB average of 30.8.
  • Continental Europe has the most schools in the top 100 (29), but East Asia's schools have the highest average score (39.0).
  • Among schools with fewer than 20 IB students, North London Collegiate School leads with 43.2 points.

A note on the data: the rankings come from IB-Schools.com, an independent guide that is not connected to the International Baccalaureate (IB). The table relies on the results schools make available, and not every IB school appears. If a school is missing, it usually means its results weren't listed, not that they were poor. Schools need at least 20 IB students to appear in the main table. Smaller schools have their own table.

The Top 20 IB Schools in the World in 2026

Bar chart of the top 20 IB schools in the world in 2026 by average IB points, coloured by region

St Paul's Co-educational College in Hong Kong tops the 2026 table with an average of 43.0 points across its 61 IB students. For context, the IB's global average in May 2026 was 30.8 points, and only about 10% of candidates scored 40 or more.

That means at the top 10 schools, the average student scored above 40. These are some of the most selective schools in the world, and their results reflect that.

The top 10 schools in 2026 are:

Cohort size matters when you compare these numbers. Dhirubhai Ambani International School averaged 40.8 across 105 students, which is harder to do than with a class of 25. The biggest IB cohort in the top 20 belongs to Sevenoaks School in the UK, with 252 students averaging 39.6 points.

How High Do You Need to Score to Reach the Top 100?

Line chart of the 10th-place, average and 100th-place scores in the global IB school top 100 from 2020 to 2026, compared with the global IB average

In 2026, the 100th-placed school averaged 35.6 points, and the average across all top-100 schools was 37.8. Both figures are close to where they've been since 2023.

The trend follows the same path as IB results worldwide:

  • 2020–2021: exams were cancelled or changed during Covid, and scores rose everywhere. In 2021 a school needed 37.7 points just to reach 100th place.
  • 2022–2023: the IB brought grading back to pre-pandemic standards. By 2023 the 100th-place score had dropped to 35.0.
  • 2024–2026: results have been stable, with the 100th-place score between 35.6 and 36.0.
Our finding: the gap between the top 100 schools and the global average has widened since Covid. In 2021, top-100 schools averaged 6.5 points above the global average. In 2026 the gap was 7.0 points. When grading got tougher, the strongest schools held their ground better than the IB as a whole.

What does this mean for you? A score of 38 in 2026 is a much stronger result than a 38 in 2021. If you're comparing yourself with older students, see our guide to the May 2026 IB results and global averages.

Top IB Schools by Region

Stacked bar chart showing how many of the global top 100 IB schools came from each region in each year from 2020 to 2026

The global top 100 has always been spread across the world, but the balance changes a lot from year to year. Here's how the regions compare in 2026:

Bar chart of the average IB points of each region's schools in the 2026 global top 100
  • East Asia has the highest-scoring schools: 19 schools averaging 39.0 points, and 7 of the top 10.
  • The UK has 19 schools averaging 38.4, led by King's College School Wimbledon.
  • South Asia (all from India in 2026) has 11 schools, also averaging 38.4. That's up from just 5 schools in 2020.
  • Continental Europe has the most schools of any region (29), but a lower average (36.7), as many sit between 36 and 37 points.
  • The Middle East has 9 schools, mostly in Dubai and Amman.

Why did East Asia fall from 31 schools in 2025 to 19 in 2026? It's mostly about which results were listed. Several Hong Kong schools that appeared every year, including Diocesan Boys' School and all five English Schools Foundation (ESF) schools, aren't in the 2026 table. Hong Kong went from 17 schools to 6. The schools that did appear performed very strongly, and five of them are in the global top 10.

South Asia shows a clearer real trend. India has gone from 5 schools in the 2020 top 100 to 11 in 2026, the most ever. This fits with the IB's rapid growth in India.

The full 2026 top 100, region by region, is below. Global rank is the school's position in the overall table ("=" means tied).

Oceania and the Americas

St Cuthbert's CollegeAuckland, New Zealand37.647

Only two schools outside Asia, Europe and the Middle East made the 2026 top 100. Both are girls' schools: St Cuthbert's College in Auckland and Methodist Ladies' College in Melbourne.

The table includes very few schools from the Americas, even though the United States and Canada have more IB students than any other countries. Many IB schools there are public schools that offer the IB alongside other programmes, and their results are rarely listed in league tables. If you're in North America, we have tutors in cities including New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Mexico City.

The Most Consistent IB Schools Since 2020

Line chart of five schools that made the global IB top 100 every year from 2020 to 2026

Thirty schools have made the global top 100 in all seven years from 2020 to 2026. That's a better sign of a strong IB programme than a single good year.

Three schools have been especially consistent at the very top:

  • St Paul's Co-educational College (Hong Kong): between 41.4 and 43.3 points every year, in the top three every year, and number one in 2021 and 2026.
  • King's College School Wimbledon (London): never below 41.1 points.
  • K. International School Tokyo: has risen from 39.8 in 2020 to 42.7 in 2026.

Notice that every school dipped in 2023, when the IB's grading returned to normal. Since then, most have been climbing again.

The schools that appear every year are spread across the world: 11 in the UK, 7 in Hong Kong and Singapore, 3 in India, and others in Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, Jeju, Milan, Paris, Dubai and Switzerland. There's no single "best region" for IB results, only strong individual schools.

The Best Small IB Schools in 2026

Bar chart of the top 15 small-cohort IB schools in 2026 by average IB points

Schools with fewer than 20 IB students are ranked separately, because one or two students can move a small school's average a lot. In 2026, 41 schools appear in the small-cohort table, with an average of 34.9 points.

North London Collegiate School in London leads with an average of 43.2 points from 9 students. It also topped the small-cohort table in 2025. Its sister schools in Singapore, Dubai and Jeju all appear in the main top 100.

Unisus International SchoolVancouver, Canada35.010

The UK has the most small-cohort schools (11), followed by Spain (6). Many are schools that offer the IB alongside A-Levels or another national programme, so only a small group of students choose the IB.

Treat these results with care. A school with 3 students averaging 37 points is impressive, but it tells you much less than a school with 100 students averaging the same.

What Do These Rankings Mean for IB Students?

League tables are useful, but they only measure one thing: the average score of a school's IB students in one year. Before you use them to choose a school, keep these points in mind.

They don't measure the value a school adds. Many top schools are highly selective. Their students would likely score well anywhere.

Not every school is listed. Some excellent schools never appear, and others appear in some years but not others.

Your own result depends on you. A strong school helps, but students at every school score 40+ each year. In May 2026, more than 10,500 students worldwide scored 40 or more.

Small differences don't mean much. A school averaging 37.0 and one averaging 36.5 are, in practice, very similar.

If you want to understand how your own score is built, read our guides on how your IB score is calculated and understanding your IB results. For a deeper look at grades by subject, see our analysis of the May 2026 IB statistical bulletin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best IB school in the world in 2026?

St Paul's Co-educational College in Hong Kong is ranked first in the 2026 global table from IB-Schools.com, with an average of 43.0 points across 61 students. It was also ranked first in 2021, and it has finished in the top three every year since the global table began in 2020.

Which country has the most top IB schools?

In 2026, the United Kingdom has the most schools in the global top 100 (19), followed by India (11) and China (10). Across all seven years since 2020, the UK and Hong Kong have had the most top-100 entries.

What average IB score does a top school have?

In 2026, schools in the global top 100 averaged 37.8 points, and the 100th-place school averaged 35.6. The global IB average was 30.8, so a top-100 school's students score roughly seven points more than the average IB student.

Why isn't my school in the IB league table?

The table only includes schools whose results IB-Schools.com has listed, and schools need at least 20 IB students to enter the main table. Many strong schools aren't listed, so a missing school doesn't mean weak results. Schools with fewer than 20 students appear in the small-cohort table.

Are IB league tables official?

No. The International Baccalaureate doesn't publish school rankings. The tables in this article come from IB-Schools.com, an independent guide. Official IB statistics, such as the global average and pass rate, come from the IB's own statistical bulletin.

Aim for a Top-School Score, Wherever You Study

You don't need to attend a top-100 school to get a top-100 score. What matters most is understanding exactly how each subject is assessed and getting expert feedback on your internal assessments (IAs), Extended Essay and exam technique.

Our tutors have a median IB score of 43, so they know what it takes to reach the top. We offer one-to-one online IB tutoring worldwide, with local support in cities such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Mumbai and London. Find your IB tutor today.
