Sana A holds a masterâs degree in English Literature from the American University of Beirut and a BA in English Language and Literature and Qualified Teacher Status in secondary English from UWE Bristol. Her masterâs research focused on ghosts in post-war Lebanese novels, and her wider academic interests include trauma, memory, and representations of war in literature. Her experience also includes a role as a tutor and instructor at the AUB Writing Center.
Sana has served as Head of Department and, on the Curriculum Committee, redesigned English curricula. She has six years of experience teaching IB English A: Language and Literature at Standard and Higher Levels. She has also been an IB examiner for five consecutive examination sessions, assessing Individual Orals, Paper 1, and Paper 2. Having taught and examined these components, she understands the struggle of moving beyond summary, developing a sustained argument, explaining the significance of a writerâs choices, and assessing significance. These are central concerns in her lessons, alongside careful preparation for each assessment.
Sana has also co-taught IB English A: Literature. She taught Theory of Knowledge to Year 1 and Year 2 students for three years and has provided individual support with ToK exhibitions. A French Baccalaureate graduate, she can also support students studying French literature and became familiar with IB French HL course components through classroom observations during her QTS training.
An enthusiast of the Harkness approach, Sana values discussion that gives students room to question, listen, and sit with their ideas. In individual tutoring, she brings that same spirit of inquiry to close reading and conversation, asking students to test their interpretations against the text and choose their evidence carefully. Lessons respond to each studentâs needs, whether that means working through a difficult passage, organising an essay, or preparing for an oral assessment. She wants students to leave knowing both how to improve their work and why those changes matter.

Sana is an experienced English tutor specializing in supporting ESL/EFL learners from diverse international backgrounds, including students from Malaysia, Singapore, India, China, Japan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. She has worked extensively with learners across different proficiency levels and is particularly skilled in helping slow learners achieve their academic goals through consistent guidance, patience, and structured learning support.
She tutors English (across different variants), Business Studies, Sociology, and Humanities, with strong experience in developing studentsâ reading, writing, and analytical skills. She also provides support for IB-style academic work, including essay writing and Extended Essay guidance, with a strong focus on structure, clarity, and critical thinking.
Sana has a strong background in research-based academic writing, which has strengthened her ability to guide students in developing well-organized arguments and improving academic expression. Customized lesson plans and engaging activities are carefully designed to meet each studentâs individual learning needs and goals.
She is passionate about creating a positive and encouraging learning environment where students build confidence step by step and steadily improve through consistent effort and personalized instruction.

Over the last twenty years I have gained significant classroom and management experience at several State, Grammar and Independent Schools. I have been out of the classroom environment recently but continue to keep up to date with Education Policy and support students away from the school environment via home tutoring.
I am an experienced teacher with a passion towards my subject and have a great desire that all pupils across the ability range are inspired by Science; there is no greater job satisfaction for me than when that inspiration leads to students excelling in examinations or pursuing a career in medicine. As Head of Biology at Kingston Grammar School I managed a team of four experienced teachers- as well as being actively involved in the overall management of the Science department.
I was successful in improving both A-Level and GCSE results year on year. I was responsible for co-ordinating Community Service placements for students in the wider community. I also worked closely with Brunel University with their PGCE programme and was part of a team inspected by OFSTED and I was awarded as âoutstandingâ in my mentoring work with PGCE students at Kingston Grammar.
Whilst my teaching specialism is Biology I have also taught Chemistry and Physics at key stage three, four and A Level. I have a broad knowledge of the science curriculum and how it fits in to schools academic policies and wider educational policies. I also have a good understanding of International Baccalaureate programs and Vocational courses. I have written schemes of work and working policies for a department as well as full risk assessments for practical work. I also have experience of intake of student new to a school be it a state school or an 11+ or Common Entrance at 13+. I have administered 11+ and 13+ examinations as well as being part of a team of interviewers assessing a studentâs suitability for the school.

I am an experienced English educator with over 15 years of teaching experience, specialising in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. I teach IB English Language and Literature and English Literature at both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL), supporting students with Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral (IO), and HL Essay preparation. My approach combines close textual analysis with clear exam strategies, helping students develop critical thinking, analytical writing, and confidence in responding to a wide range of literary and non-literary texts. I tailor lessons to individual learning needs, enabling students to achieve their academic goals while fostering a genuine appreciation for literature and language.
